On Friday, September 8, Emilie K. Asplundh Concert Hall will have students rolling in the aisles laughing as SAC hosts their Annual Comedy Blitz.This year comedians Dwayne Perkins, Alex House and Sherrod Small will be bringing their acts to Asplundh Concert Hall, injecting their unique humor into the WCU community.
Dwayne Perkins is probably most well-known for his half-hour special that airs on Comedy Central as part of the Comedy Central Presents series. According to Perkins offficial website (www.dwayneperkins.com), the special “showcases Dwayne’s unique way of looking at life and unparalleled ability to convey it in a hilarious manner.” He frequently entertains crowds in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. His stand-up has also been featured on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” “The Late Late Show” and “Premium Blend.”
Like many comedians, Perkins is also an actor, having made appearances in the HBO movie “Gristle” and the upcoming film “Target Audience 9.1”.
Also appearing with Perkins is Alex House, who has quite the resume. She has won the “Bud Light’s Ladies of Laughter Comedy Contest” twice and was among the semi-finalists on the popular reality TV show “Last Comic Standing.” She has also been nominated for both “Comedian of the Year” and “Female Entertainment of the Year” in “Campus Activities Magazine.”
Additionally, she continues to be the sole female writer for the Broadway sketch comedy show, “The Richie Byrne Show.” She has also made two guest appearances on “The View.”
When not on stage, House takes acting lessons with JoAnna Beckson, who has a few students you might now: Ray Romano, Dave Chapelle, and Brett Butler.
Last but not least is Sherrod Small, who has made numerous TV appearances, including “Premium Blend,” “Showtime at the Apollo,” “Best Week Ever” and HBO’s “Chris Rock Show.” He has also been known to show up in portions of the “Late Night Show with Conan O’Brien.”
Small does stand-up at the Comedy Cellar in Manhattan, and is even sometimes the master of ceremonies.
