Women’s Athlete of the Week: Julia Vreeswyk

Julia Vreeswyk (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a solid week this past week as she recorded 48 kills and nine blocks to help West Chester go 2-1 on the week. Vreeswyk began her week on Tuesday against Millersville by tying her career and season-high for kills with 17 while also registering three digs and four blocks in the five-set victory. On Friday night against Shippensburg, Vreeswyk saw limited action recording six kills, three blocks and a pair of digs in West Chester’s 3-0 loss to the Raiders. Vreeswyk saved her best performance of the week for Saturday afternoon at Pitt-Johnstown as she recorded 25 kills along with four digs to help West Chester come away with a crucial five-set victory. Vreeswyk has the fourth most kills of any player in the PSAC in 2018.

Men’s Athlete of the Week: Doug Goitia

Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had another exceptional week this past week scoring one goal while also adding a pair of assists to help West Chester go 2-0 on the week. Goitia began his week on Wednesday night at Millersville scoring the game-winning goal with just 19 seconds left in regulation to lift West Chester to a thrilling 2-1 come from behind victory over the Marauders. This goal was Goitia’s team-leading sixth goal of the season and it was also his sixth tally in four games and the second game in a row in which he has scored. Goitia added another two points to his already strong week on Saturday afternoon in West Chester’s 4-0 win over Cal U of PA as he provided two perfect assists.
