Five players from our men’s and women’s tennis teams traveled to the PSAC individual championships to compete for West Chester University. They also competed in doubles.
Senior Davica Massaro and senior Elaina Lee competed in singles for the women’s team and Massaro and senior Alyssa Skulsky made up the women’s doubles team.
Massaro won her first singles match against East Stroudsburg University’s Samantha Passmore (6–0, 6–0). She fell in the quarterfinals to Mercyhurst University’s Roisin Murphy (1-–6, 2–6). Murphy and her teammate Kayla Dean went on to win the doubles championship.
Lee won her first match as well. She defeated Cecillia Carayol of Edinboro University (6-–3, 4–6, 1-–0) (4). She was defeated in quarterfinals by Adriana Gonzalez Sanchez (3-–6, 2–6).
In doubles, Massaro and Skulsky lost to Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Katy Graydon and Lydia Vlachou (8–2). Graydon was part of IUP’s championship doubles team in 2021.
Freshman Lucas Henke and senior Andre Zequqira competed in both singles and as the men’s doubles team at the championships.
Henke fell to EU’s Bruno Sabio in straight sets (6–0, 6–0) in his first match. Sabio was the singles champion in 2021 and is the current 2022 champion.
Zequqira was also defeated in his first match to Bloomsburg University’s Sergio Dilan (6–2, 6–7) (2).
Henke and Zequqira were defeated in their first doubles match as well by EU’s Sabio and Rocco Palombarini (8–4). Sabio and Palombarini went on to win the championship.
In singles, each game is broken up into three sets. If one player wins the first two sets, the third will not be played.
In doubles, the first team to eight points won the match.
