it was a record-setting day as the West Chester men’s indoor track and field team closed out the Bison Open held by Bucknell University.

Ralph Casper (York, PA / York Suburban) smashed the record for shot put in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference by four inches as he placed first with a mark of 59-09.50. In addition to earning a personal and PSAC-best mark, Casper earned NCAA Division II automatic-qualifying status in the shot put. Casper, along with his brother John Casper (York, PA / York Catholic) also earned fourth and ninth place respectively in the weight throw with respective marks of 55-03.50 and 51-10.50. Ralph Casper eclipsed his personal best while John Casper tied his personal best.

Closing out the field events for West Chester were Will Rivers (Manheim, PA / Manheim Central) and Zahir Madyun (West Chester, PA / West Chester Henderson) who placed first and 10th respectively in the triple jump with marks of 47-00.25 and 38-01.50.

Chad Mowbray (Lancaster, PA / Penn Manor) and Ori Frazier (Abington, PA / Abington) earned third and fourth place respectively in the 400-meter dash, finishing together with times of 50.25 (tying his personal best) and 50.32. Jarett Zelinsky (Newtown, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) earned ninth place in the 800-meter with a time of 2:03.37. Chase Knorr (Birdsboro, PA / Twin Valley) meanwhile earned 10th place in the 3000-meter run for his career-best time of 9:13.06.

Two West Chester teams placed in the top five of the 4×400-meter relay to close out the day. West Chester team “A” consisting of Ori Frazier, Trey-Anthony McGarrah (Sinking Spring, PA / Wilson), Jarett Zelinsky, and Chad Mowbray placed second overall with a time of 3:29.38. West Chester team “B” consisting of Joe Bevilacqua (Hillsborough, NJ / Hillsborough), Brandon Vargas-Bines (Maple Glen, PA / Upper Dublin), Zachary Risser (Bernville, PA / Tulpehocken), and Donnell Williams (Stewartstown, PA / Kennard Dale) wrapped out the top five with their time of 3:33.52.

West Chester will continue its indoor track and field season with a quad meet on Friday at East Stroudsburg.
