Calling all communications studies majors: West Chester University’s Students in Communication (SIC) chapter is holding their first general interest meeting Thursday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m.

As a major based organization, SIC is geared toward setting up WCU’s communication studies majors with the tools they need in order to be successful in the field after graduation.

“We are a major-based club offering professional guidance, social events with fellow ‘com’ majors and tutoring opportunities” said Allie Donahue, secretary of SIC.

The first meeting will be giving interested members information about upcoming events and workshops, major goals as an organization as well as free pizza and Insomnia cookies.

“Our main goal as a club is to provide resources to students within the department in order to be successful in the industry” said James Jackson, president of SIC.

Over the course of the fall semester they will be organizing resume workshops, alumni panels and tutoring for any communications-based classes. SIC stressed the importance of this new feature of the organization beginning this semester.

“The LARC doesn’t provide in depth tutoring for a lot of classes within our department, so that’s where we come in,” said Jackson.

Students in Communication is also a great resource for students in the department who are working toward becoming a member of Lambda Pi Eta, the honors society specific to the communications department.

Both clubs will be working side by side to organize various events over the course of the year.

The executive board is also very excited about the alumni gala that is in the works for the spring semester.

The event is being organized for students in the department to begin to network with alumni that are currently in the industry.

“This is going to be a great opportunity for students to make connections with individuals from all aspects of the field,” said Jackson.

The organization is going to be working throughout the year to make the event a success.

Students in Communication will be holding a number of meetings and events throughout the fall and are so excited to welcome new members.

Rachel Spurlock is a second-year student majoring in communications with a minor in journalism. She can be reached at RS874054@wcupa.edu.
