Members of the Student Government Association were informed on the process of forming a student organization by a presentation from Leadership and Involvement Assistant Director, Jackie Aliotta.

With SGA being the final stop for hopeful organizations to take before becoming officially affiliated with the university, the process was an important one for the senators to know.

Aliotta discussed the steps that those looking to create a new group must take, from initiating the process on OrgSync to presenting in front of the SGA. Leadership and Involvement guides hopefuls through the entire process.

Following the presentation, SGA President Gary Prince asked about how prepared organization leaders are in regard to what SGA needs to know about them, like if the group will need funding. Aliotta suggested that a list of things SGA would want presenters to know could be made and given to each group before presenting.

Prince emphasized the importance of the senators knowing the organization process, as SGA is expected to have several potential groups present in the near future. “Look forward to a lot coming in through the coming weeks,” Prince said.

Senators and officers had a number of announcements for events coming up, including a Women Leading Up Conference on Friday in the Sykes ballroom and nominations for student organization of the month opening up.

A suggestion for a new clothing program came from Senator Aaron Rosengarten, who proposed an initiative that would allow people to donate dress attire for students. Rosengarten talked about the importance of dressing appropriately for interviews and internships, and that such a program would be invaluable for students who could not afford formal clothes.

Student Trustee Montana Leaks mentioned that Plato’s Closet in Exton will be opening a formal section in March, saying that this will open the opportunity to possibly get clothing for very good prices. Leaks said that the donation idea is still a good option.
