Women’s SoccerThe women’s soccer team had a record-setting season this year, advancing to the Division II National Semifinals in Pensacola, Florida, for the first time in school history, after already capturing the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship and the Division II Northeast Championship.

In Florida, the No. 2 Lady Rams fell to the No. 12 Metro State 2-1 in double overtime in the national semifinals. They finished their season 23-1, with their only loss coming to Metro State.

Senior Julie Karcher was the offensive leader this year, breaking the single season points record with 52 points on the 2006 season. Senior Casey McKinney was a strong force for the Lady Rams’ defense and was named the 2006 PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year. Coach Gerry Lucey was named the Coach of the Year in PSAC in his first season with the Golden Rams.

The following athletes received PSAC East Division firs team honors: Brittany Yetter, Lauren Boyer, Julie Karcher, Casey McKinney, Lauren Ginnona, Elma Numerato and Jessie Heller. Goalkeeper Hilary Smart received the honor of being named the second team goalkeeper for the second season in a row. The first six players mentioned, along with Hilary Smart were also named to 2006 All-Northeast Regional Teams.

The men’s soccer team also had a record setting season, finishing the league with a 12-3-1 league mark, setting the school record. They finished the regular season 14-5-1. The team advanced to the semifinals, but fell to Lock Haven 2-1.

Ricky Mucelli and Alex Inman earned the All-PSAC first team, while Mike Pryor, Ben Gotwald and Josh Harris were named to the second team.

Men’s & Women’s

Cross Country

Both the men’s and women’s team finished 12th in the NCAA Division II East Regionals.

Tommy Pearson finished 17th out of 172 runners, earning the top honor for the Golden Rams. He posted a time of 33:53, the best individual score since 2000. Peter Gottwald finished 29th with 34:28, Matt Casey 78th with 36:03, Matt Landale 86th with 36:31, Alex Proctor 93th with 36:49, Jim Moore 121st with 38:03 and Dan Drew 134th with 39:01 rounding out the WCU finishes for the men’s team.

Kristie Kershaw finished 17th out of 189 runners, earning the top honor for the Golden Rams, posting a time of 23:55. This was the best individual a Golden Rams athlete has posted since 2000.

Rebecca MacNeill finished 43rd with a time of 25:05, Megan Hallinin 54th with 25:22, Kristi Motyka 86th with 26:17, Jessica-Lyn Joesph 102nd with 26:59, Shaina Cohle 119th with 27:36 and Laura Carnes 123rd with 27:53, rounding out the Golden Rams’ finishes.

Women’s Rugby

The Golden Rams earned their first Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union Division I Collegiate Championship after defeating rival Princeton University, who has defeated the Golden Rams for the championship title for the past two seasons. They finished out the fall season with a 5-2 record.

Because of their victory over Princeton, the Lady Rams have earned the fourth seed in the Mid-Atlantic Rugby Football Union Playoffs this spring. They have earned the right to host a spring playoff match.

Women’s Volleyball

The Golden Rams finished their regular season with a bang, defeating Holy Family 3-0. WCU finished the regular season with an 18-14 record.

The Golden Rams advanced to the PSAC Championship Tournament at Lock Haven University, but fell 3-0 in the first round.

Kristen Decker, Nicole Vetock and Lisa Yeasted each earned first team honors in the PSAC Eastern Division.

Women’s field Hockey

The Lady Rams suffered a tough season this year, finishing with a 2-16 record overall and 0-6 in the Atlantic 10 of Division I. The women’s field hockey team is the only team at West Chester University to compete in Division I.

Because of their winless record in the Atlantic 10 Division, the Lady Rams failed to make it to the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis

hed the fall portion of their season 3-3 and will continue their season in the spring.

Maria Kostaris won her first-round match in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Tennis Championships.

The men’s team also earned honors at the championship, with the Chip Diem and Andrew Pollack duo winning their first round doubles match, but dropping the second to a duo from Bloomsburg.

Men’s Golf

For the first time in almost 40 years, 39 to be exact, the Golden Rams’ men’s golf team earned the PSAC championship title. Jared Miller of West Chester earned the individual title after finishing the two day tournament with a score of 145.

WCU posted a team score of 603 for the title.

Miller, Matt Sullivan and Dominic Frassinelli all earned PSAC All-Conference honors.
