Get ready ladies, it’s time to compete this year for the next Miss WCU. Before you are able to compete, though, you must make sure to fill out your application to become the next Miss WCU. Applications for Miss WCU are available at residence hall front desks. Once you are done filling out the application, it must be returned to Killinger Hall’s front desk. The applications are available to full-time female students of WCU. The application asks the basics such as name, year in school, major, community service and student involvement. You must also include reasons why you think you should be a contestant for Miss WCU.

Each applicant must also have a platform, which is a featured topic to talk about during the competition. After the applications are submitted, an executive board reviews each application. They then decide which girls will be contestants in the pageant that year. The number of applications submitted each year determines how many girls will be participating in the competition.

Liz Seymour was crowned Miss WCU 2004 earlier this year. Her platform dealt with smoking rights and education. As Miss WCU, Seymour had the opportunity to take action with her platform.

“My platform deals with youth education on smoking and equal rights for smokers and non smokers. This means letting smokers smoke and allowing them that space while also allowing non smokers smoke free areas as well,” said Seymour. “We are still in the process with getting these areas distinguished on campus.”
