Sigma Pi’s 15th annual Sorority Showdown pageant and competition was held on Thursday October 23rd from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in Sykes Ballrooms to raise money for charity. West Chester Sorority women from Delta Zeta, Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Xi Delta, Phi Mu and Phi Sigma Sigma competed against one another in three categories: formal wear, talent and Q & A.

The sisters of Alpha Phi came away with the overall sorority victory, excelling in all three categories. Delta Zeta was a close second followed by Zeta Tau Alpha, who placed third overall.

In the individual standings, Erika Hafetz of DZ placed third, Erykah Aponte of Zeta was runner-up, and the winner was Allison Grimme of Alpha Phi.

After the entertainment portion of the program, buy-a-guy brother auction took place. Over 20 Sig Pi’s were auctioned off as dates to a multitude of ladies.

Sorority Showdown is the longest consecutively running charitable Greek fundraiser on campus. Proceeds are donated to the Police Athletic League, PAL, which provides after school activities for youths in the community.

Last year, the project brought in $1,100. The goal for this year was to accumulate $1,500 from the brother auction. The goal was met and surpassed, raising $2,100.

On behalf of the brothers of Sigma Pi Fraternity International, Zeta-Alpha Chapter, the sororities would like to thank all those who made this event possible this year.

Sponsors were: Kildare’s, Barnaby’s, Pita Pit, Saucey and Papa John’s.

They would also like to thank brother Dom Fritelli for organizing the 2008 Sorority Showdown.

Most importantly, the sororities would like to thank the contestants, judges and all those who came out and supported the cause.
