Dear West Chester,

The fall semester is always such a colorful mix of emotion for so many people. I see the excitement and eagerness. I see the nervousness and wariness. I see the hopeful, measured exhaustion of the seniors readying themselves for their final semester and the faculty preparing for another hard-working semester. Year after year, I always seem to notice it more than the last. As I enter my own senior year, it’s consistently front-and-center.

With that being said, I am thrilled to present the first issue of the Fall 2019 semester. I want nothing more than for the hard work of the staff and editorial board to shine through with each issue as the semester goes on, and for The Quad Student News Service to continue to be a voice for and by the students of West Chester University. For those who have been keeping up with our work over the years, we are dedicated to providing the same voice, tenacity, courage and heart that The Quad has continued to provide. I sincerely thank you for sticking with us for this long and hope to continue to provide the same quality of work that we have in the past.

For those who are new to reading The Quad, welcome! We are first and foremost a student news service that prides itself in the work we provide and put out. Though we are student-run, we aim for the same quality of work that one would read in a news service independent of a university in the coverage, style and ethical reporting of a fully independent paper. Providing a source for dependable, honest and exciting news is my goal for this paper, just as it has been for many editors-in-chief of the past.

I will see this paper as a success if it becomes a source that others can rely on, and I believe The Quad has been able to be just that. I’m very excited to share all of our hard work, passion and dedication to the rest of campus. We have hard-hitting articles coming up in the next few weeks and sharing them with you will be a privilege of mine and all of ours.

Sincerely,
Samantha Walsh
