In need of a change from the normal routine of on-campus dining? Bored of pizza delivery and want to try something new? If so, you should take a short stroll from campus to check out what’s new in the town center. Nestled between Market and Gay streets on Darlington, Roll Dogz has some unique options for those who enjoy a tasty American hot dog or crispy, flaky egg roll.

With their grand opening on Jan. 28, this young West Chester business has combined two delicious favorites from vastly different food categories. The heartiness of a hot dog and unique savory crunch of an egg roll are paired together on the menu of this humble hot dog spot.

Roll Dogz proudly states that they are the first food establishment to pair hot dogs and egg rolls together. What could have possibly inspired owner Jason Sciore to combine these foods? Rolldogz’s manager Jackie Yassen clued me in.

“The owner thought, ‘what better than two finger foods that would be affordable, on the go, and tasty.’ In addition, having the variety of dipping sauces inspired the owner to have his egg rolls to be unique which he wanted to share with the town of West Chester,” Yassen explained.

Roll Dogz carries half a dozen types of gourmet hot dogs and egg rolls. All hot dogs are ¼ pound all-beef dogs. The gourmet hot dogs are cleverly named after primary West Chester borough streets. You can try the Market Street Dog, consisting of bacon, barbeque sauce, and cheddar cheese toppings. The Darlington Dog is topped with chili, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and onions. Another unique dog on their menu is the Price Street Dog, smothered in chili and coleslaw. You can even build your own dog and pick your own toppings. Vegetarian dogs are available with up to three toppings!

In addition to all this hot dog variety, their price cannot be beat for a quick lunch. All items are under $4. Their egg rolls match the uniqueness of their American counterparts. Go for a buffalo chicken egg roll served with buffalo ranch dipping sauce, or stay traditional with a Vietnamese egg roll which has pork, carrots, and onions with a sweet chili sauce. There is even an Italian egg roll, packed with sausage, peppers, onions and mozzarella cheese with marinara sauce.

The two tasty treats can be put together as a combo for an even more affordable rate. Roll Dogz features a combo of one gourmet hot dog, one gourmet egg roll, waffle fries, and a soda for $6.50.

“The most frequently paired combo would be the Darlington dog and our buffalo egg roll… Our menu is simple, affordable and unique,” Yassen commented.

At that rate, it is well worth the walk for a unique hot dog experience with international flare. With a hungry, late-night crowd meandering through the streets of our college town, Roll Dogz is sure to attract attention. Located directly across the street from Landmark, this hot dog haven is open until 3 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It is sure to be a stop for those parading through our nightlife scene.

A new addition to West Chester’s dining, these guys are rolling in with a new concept. The American-Asian fusion idea provides our community with yet another exclusive to West Chester food options. What is nice about Roll Dogz is that their menu is designed so you can either create a meal or just stop in for a quick  snack.
