Robyn Lomenzo is a WCUR DJ who plays her tunes every Monday night from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. Lomenzo became a DJ because she’s a diehard music lover: as a freshman she wanted to become more involved on campus with other students that loved music as much as her, so to have her own show, she couldn’t have asked for anything better.

Some of Lomenzo’s favorite bands are Radiohead, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Explosions in the Sky, the Pixies, and Broken Social Scene. As far as her favorite genre, she claims there is no limit.

“It’s hard to describe,” Lomenzo said.

“I listen to real strange music, but that’s only a portion.”

That’s also the type of music you will hear on her show: a wide range of anything that mostly consists of non-mainstream music, primarily indie.

Lomenzo is a criminal justice major and this is her first semester as a WCUR DJ.

“So far it’s awesome. I love it,” Lomenzo said.

“It’s nice and relaxing to start the week. I have a three-hour class before my show, so I’m like ‘phew, let’s get to the radio station.'”

Lomenzo is also involved with the Major Entertainment club. As a member, Lomenzo deals with advertising.

Originally, there are five bands that are chosen from a poll. Then, after a band is chosen, the advertising begins with posters and tickets.

On the day of the concert, Lomenzo shows up at six in the morning to help set up. After college life, Lomenzo would love to someday own a venue/bar somewhere in the Midwest or West coast.

“If a job came up anywhere in the music industry, I would be all over that,” Lomenzo said,

“even if it was just for a year or two.”

Be sure to check out Lomenzo’s show every Monday from 10 p.m. to midnight.
