It’s not everyday you get featured on a song with Kendrick Lamar on the second record you’re credited as a solo artist. Momo Boyd is that very lucky woman. On “Good Flirts” by Baby Keem featuring her and Kendrick Lamar she started to gain notoriety for the vocals she added to the chorus of the song. Boyd told Complex “I really approached the feature in a very quiet and focused way…As I was working on it, I was very tight-lipped. I didn’t want to make a big deal of the idea of it, or celebrate or get too happy until the work was done and it was a done deal. So many things in life don’t pan out, so I just tried to keep a steady head and do my best. It wasn’t until I was on the set of the music video that I finally allowed myself to be happy about it all and dream of what it might be like once the world saw it.” In the chorus, she sings, “Don’t you love a good flirt with a stranger? Don’t you love lettin’ out a good cry, baby? Ain’t coming home on a Friday night I’m all good, my hips still wine Don’t you love a good flirt with a stranger? Don’t you love lettin’ out a— cry? Ain’t coming home on a Friday night I’m all good, my hips still wine.”

Boyd capitalized on all the attention she was getting by dropping her first solo project, the “Miss Michigan” EP.

The project starts off with the beautiful record “Cold Hands” she sings, “I’ve been thinking of the worst way to go I’ve decided it’s being alone. I’ve been going through some changes. The ones that I can’t control.” It’s a powerful and emotional way to start off the project and showcases Boyd lyricism as an artist. The record to me sees Boyd proclaiming to be a woman to have gone through a lot so to see you to walk out her life won’t her as much as it should. Boyd performed Cold Hands for her Colors Studio performance as well. “Strong” follows it up as Boyd dives into the feeling unsatisfied with the love she’s receiving from someone. She told Complex the songs from meeting, “a producer by the name of Mikey Freedom Hart on a rainy afternoon in the middle of October last year, and this is what we made in a few hours based off of what was on my mind and heart that day. It flowed very naturally, and I think the creative chemistry was very easy as well.”

“Big Country” sees Boyd searching for a liver that’s just right for her. While “She’s a Sweetheart” sees Boyd being sick of everyone trying to put her in a box on what they need her to be and not what she wants to be. She sings in the pre chorus “This seems to be a trend Everybody’s got an idea of what I’m supposed to be And it tends (It tends) so conveniently (Conveniently) To align with what they need.” “Second best” follows and is one of my favorites from the project. It’s an honest confession on the part of loving so much that’s isn’t so pretty. She sings, “I wanna try my best for you But that’s not what you want me to do You’d rather I be more like you A bit more easy-going and less invested would make you comfortable And I wanna try my best for you

So I’ll hold it in, be less to handle, keep it casual.”

The solo debut of Momo Boyd makes its appearance on the EP, “American Love Song” which was first released March 27, 2025. It was widely accepted by fans of Boyd and left listeners eager to hear more from her . Boyd didn’t drop again until this year.

The EP finishes with “Oops,” a more spunky and fun record on the EP. Boyd dropped the music video for the song as well.

Overall, the project is a beautiful debut to Momo Boyd’s sound and image to listeners. Boyd announced in April her first solo tour with scattered dates in June, August, October and November. More recently her family group announced their next album self titled “Infinity Song” which will be released on June 12.
