what’s it gonna take,

to lower stakes,

and make us great?

baby wait and please just stay.

let’s steak and wine, enjoy a play.

let’s go to church on calm sundays—

bow down our heads and then we pray.

i lightly tread on words to say,

i break my bread with chardonnay,

i spray my bed with floral spray,

with hopes you lay on a warm day.

my open window, views of the bay,

you turn to me and softly say—

“bae i feared the games you’d play,”

“i fear the way you say my name,”

“i fear the way you drift away,”

“in silent waves of mental games.”

i’d turn to you and say the same,

my golden tears mimic the waves,

my long black hair been turning gray,

with thoughts of us all in my brain.

but who am i to say you stay?

and who am i to beg you lay?

who am i to crave your space—

and take up time on your short days?

so i pray you come my way,

and hope you stay to hear me say—

i come with peace and sunny days,

i write my will your name engraved.
