The men’s rugby season started with two away matches in February. The team will return to West Chester on Mar. 4 to face Mount St. Mary’s University (MSM) in their first home game of the season.

The team has faced the University of Delaware and competed in Pitt Dome 7s and will look to improve their record on Mar. 4. The game will be held at Matlack Field at 1 p.m.

Last season, the team finished top two in the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC). That secured them a place in the Collegiate Rugby Championships’s (CRCs) premier division.

The Rams have many new players coming into this season.

“We have a ton of new talent and a few huge additions to our pack which will be instrumental to our success,” player Matt Laudien said. “We plan on showing another varsity program what we’re made of.”

After the team’s 2–4 performance at Pitt Dome 7s, the Rams will look to adjust and improve their record going into the home opener.

Pitt Dome 7s worked as an introduction tournament for new players on the team.

“We used it as a tournament to get freshman and new 7s players acclimated to the collegiate game,” Laudien said.

MSM is coming off a 39–15 win against the University of Mary Washington, providing an important chance for WCU to get a big win at home.

“I believe that [the team will] perform well under the pressure,” Laudien said. “A win over them would be huge for our rankings.”

The team competes in Division I of the MAC and has their championships in the CRCs.
