Senior Heather Spangler was named as one of three West Chester University Women’s Rugby team captains alongside seniors Bayla Shindledecker and Faith Morley. She has played for the team for four years.

Spangler is from a rugby family, with both her father and older sister Haley, playing as well. Heather played all four years in high school.

“Heather is the all around type of player you can build a team around,” Head Coach Tony DeRemer said. “She has been such an influential part of our team for the last four years.”

She has started for both of the first two games of the season and her presence on the field has not gone unnoticed.

As of Sept. 24th, Spangler leads the Golden Rams in points with four tries totalling to 20 points in two games. That is over a quarter of the team’s 76 total points. The next closest scorer, sophomore Sara McNicholas, has 12 points.

She has been a solid 8-man for the team in her years at WCU.

“Our program just won’t be the same without her,” DeRemer said.

Spangler and The Golden Rams will be back in action against Lander University on Oct. 15th in South Carolina.

The team is 1-1 on the season so far after their loss to the U.S. Naval Academy.
