Do you like a show that makes you cry almost every episode? Do you prefer a program that makes you feel like a part of the family it’s filming? Well, then I have the perfect show for you!
The NBC hit show “This is Us” recently aired its first episode of season three on Tuesday, September 25. The “This is Us’” pilot aired September 20 of 2016. It is a show that follows a family called the Pearsons.
Season one of “This Is Us” alone reached 91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 90 percent audience rating. I personally would rate the show 5/5 stars and clearly many other audience fans agree since the average rating is 4.5/5 stars. Season three already has 81 percent and 3.9/5 stars with only one episode released.
The show takes place in various time periods—which sounds confusing and at first, it is. The start of the first time period that takes place in the series is the 1980s. This is when the mom, Rebecca, played by Mandy Moore and the dad, Jack, played by Milo Ventimiglia, meet and begin their family. The Pearson family is very different from regular families. Their children are triplets but not your typical triplets.
SPOILER ALERT for those who haven’t seen the show at all yet. One of the triplets is an adopted black boy named Randall played by Sterling Brown. The other two triplets are Kate (played by Chrissy Metz) and Kevin (played by Justin Hartley). This family goes through hardships and loss like any typical family which makes this series very relatable. This show is perfect to watch with family, friends and pretty much anyone who will sit and watch a drama with you. Each episode will most likely leave you in tears and wanting the next episode immediately. At least, that’s how I feel after every episode.
Season three looks promising already. As the series gets deeper into the details of the Pearson family and their extended family, the later in time it takes place. Within the first episode of this season we get to see how the love story of Rebecca and Jack began and a turn of events that no one expected. Kate and husband Toby, played by Chris Sullivan, continue the process of trying to have a baby which makes a dramatic change for the show and Toby’s life. Randall and his wife, Beth played by Susan Watson, are trying to make Deja, their foster child, an official part of their family. Deja has been a huge part in Randall and Beth’s life and in this episode, they reveal whether or not Deja will become a part of the family. In Kevin’s life, he meets up with Beth’s cousin and they are “knocking boots” as Beth says.
The biggest part of this episode that is keeping me and everyone else waiting is wondering who Randall and his daughter are going to visit and why. The last episode of season two left us off with that mystery and the surprise of Randall’s daughter being grown up. For those fans that have seen the last episode, they are still left clueless like me. After last season, I thought I had guessed who they were going to see. Now, after watching the first episode of season three, I am even more thrown.
As you can tell, you can get very deep into the life of the Pearsons through this show. I have watched it from the beginning, but if you haven’t watched it yet it’s not too late to catch up. “This is Us” is now on Hulu for everyone to share in the love this show spreads.
