Cassidy Califano, a senior liberal arts major, recently embarked on a new journey this summer by creating an e-newsletter.
The newsletter, Quarter Crisis, is self-described as “a newsletter about twenty-somethings, created by twenty-somethings.”
What differentiates this newsletter from other similar newsletters is that it is actually written by twenty-somethings; it’s not written by older people offering advice. It’s a fresh perspective on everyday issues and decisions.
“I called it ‘Quarter Crisis’ because whatever age you are, at your twenties, you are always going through something. We all go through different crises and I wanted to find other people from all over that had a different perspective,” said Califano.
“What inspired me the most was people’s different perspectives and experiences. Whenever I ask the question for the newsletter, I try to pick a question that can be seen from multiple sides.”
This week’s question is, “What would you do without your smartphone?” “People have different reasons for doing or not doing things and I just think it is interesting to gather these reasons in a newsletter for everyone to read.”
Her first issue, which came out in August, asked millennials the question, “What does it mean to be a twenty something?” Every other Tuesday, the answers to these questions are delivered via email to her subscribers.
“I didn’t think much about doing it, I just made a Facebook post and got an outpouring of responses of interested people. I figured, why not?”
The newsletter, which readers can subscribe to at tinyletter.com/quartercrisis, wouldn’t have been possible without the internet. Califano attributes her success so early on to the internet.
“It’s very accessible which makes it a lot easier. I’m able to do a lot more because of the internet and sometimes previous generations don’t get that. It opens doors in ways that they cannot understand.”
