Dear West Chester,
I am having some trouble writing this week’s letter, for this is my last one. After reevaluating my schedule and overall life decisions, I have decided to resign from my position as Editor-in-Chief from The Quad. This decision has nothing to do with the wonderful people who work here, or with the quality paper that they produce. This has been an incredible experience for me. At the end of my freshman year, I found a home here as a copy editor. By the following semester, I was promoted to Op-Ed section editor. At the end of my sophomore year, I was pleasantly surprised to have been elected as the new Editor-in-Chief. Since then, amazing opportunities have erupted. Exciting breaking news events occurred such as President Donald Trump’s visit to campus and the APSCUF strike. I’m so incredibly grateful to have experienced these events and more, and to have made some exceptional friends. From our copy editors to photography editors and sports guys, to my partner in crime Managing Editor Kinjal Shah, I have made memorable friendships that I will cherish forever. Tears are welling in my eyes as I write these words.
That said, I am extremely happy to introduce Lauren Detweiler as The Quad’s new Editor-in-Chief. She has proven to be a hard worker, fast learner and overall an openminded leader with a friendly personality and big heart. I am more than confident that she will fulfill the roles and responsibilities that come with this position and make her new, fresh ideas a reality. In addition, we have new copy editors, section editors, assistant photography and news editors and a new managing editor and distribution manager. I’d like to welcome them all as they start their new journey here at The Quad. Enjoy your time here while you can—it’s an experience you’ll never forget.
Finally, I have some people to thank. Dr. Thompsen, who is currently on sabbatical, was here for me from the beginning. Thank you for teaching me all that I needed to know and incorporating that new software that’s been a huge time-saver. Dr. Ben Kuebrich, thank you for working with me and bringing a fresh perspective to The Quad. And to all the people on staff—thank you for all the work you’ve done and your consistently positive attitude. You all make me laugh on our Sunday meetings.
So, West Chester, it’s been real. I am proud to have served as Editor-in-Chief, and I can’t wait to see the Quad continue to shine.
