  1. Some effective visual reporting covering both sides of the event.

I started my professional career in news at the Quad as photo editor in 1979 and 1980. It’s good to see opportunities to work on a professional level are still promoted at the Quad.

    Keep up the good work.

Some things to add to future reports:

    1. Give it a name that reflects the story. “Quad Special Report” does nothing to attract a readers interest. Good headlines are an art. Practice it.

    2. Put full names, majors, or where the speaker is from in the lower third of the screen. This is basic reporting that adds credibility to the reporter and the speaker.

    3. A special report should be special. The overall reporting on the Trump rally was fragmented into many individual pieces that become incoherent. A Special report should combine everything into one package that sums up the entire event. Inside the rally, outside the rally and include admin and public safety officials.

Modern news delivery has that fragmented quality because of the immediacy factor of social media tools. At some point editors need to assemble it into an insightful balanced report that distills the fog of flash reporting in the moment.

Practice all of that and delivering the product within 90 minutes of the event ending.
