On Thursday, April 16, the Spring Concert was held by Major Entertainment inside Hollinger Fieldhouse. This year’s event was named the Ram This Festival. After weeks of waiting, West Chester students welcomed artists OCD: Moosh and Twist and headliner Hoodie Allen.

OCD: Moosh and Twist started the show, rapping hits such as “All That I Know.” OCD: Moosh and Twist consists of two 21 year olds. They released their first EP in 2014 which soared to number 5 on iTunes hip hop charts. With the band’s Philadelphia roots, they were extremely proud to play this show. “This is so close to home; this is home,” Moosh shouted.

Moosh and Twist stand out as a hip hop group because they bring together both white and black rap, an issue that is prominent in hip hop music today. In the show, Moosh addressed this, proud to show that the group’s music breaks the divisive barriers between white and black hip hop music.

After an evening of anticipation, Hoodie Allen came on and the audience went wild. He opened the show with his hit single, “People Keep Talking.”

Hoodie Allen, whose real name is Stephen Markowitz, is a rapper with a very unique story. After growing up in Long Island, NY, he went to college at the ivy league University of Pennsylvania, where he double-majored in marketing and finance. Upon graduation, he worked for Google. On and off stage, he clearly defines success.

Hoodie really knew how to make the crowd happy. In the middle of his set, he personalized the show by creating his own, instantaneous “West Chester Freestyle.” In the melody, he referenced iconic representations of West Chester such as Asher Roth, Chris’s Pizza, and the Diner. For his track “No Faith in Brooklyn,” he changed the lyrics to “No Faith in West Chester.” When “Cake Boy” came on, Hoodie threw two delicious cakes into the audience. Talk about a play on words!

Hoodie played a mix of new and old songs to capture the appreciation of all fans alike.
