West Chester University continued their shutout streak against Cheyney University for the fourth consecutive season defeating them 64-0 Saturday night at Farrell Stadium.The Golden Rams set a school record for most points scored in a game inside Farrell Stadium. The previous mark was 62 set in 1971 against Mansfield University and tied two years ago against Cheyney University. WCU has outscored Cheyney 252-0 during the past four years.

The Golden Rams improved their record to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East while Cheyney dropped to 2-3 on the season, 0-1 in the PSAC East.

The Golden Rams got off to a great start, scoring a touchdown within the first four minutes of the game. The Golden Rams kept up their enthusiasm throughout the entire game, scoring touchdown after touchdown. They finished the first half with a score of 41-0, scoring a last minute touchdown after catching an interception bringing play down to the oneyard line.

Sophomore Bill Zwaan Jr. had his first career start as quarterback Saturday night. He connected on 19 of 14 pass attempts for 215 yards and two scores. Zwaan connected with freshman Michael Washington with a 53-yard throw early in the second quarter. Washington’s touchdown was the result of wideout junior Eric Ruffenbach blind-siding a Cheyney defensive back who was on track to knock Washington out of bounds. Zwaan then connected with Brandon Simmons with a 13-yard throw at the end of the half.

Washington finished the night with another set of amazing stats. He finished with four catches for 141 yards and one touchdown.

Junior Brent Steinmetz had a spectacular night, carrying the ball six times for 44-yards with a pair of touchdown runs of one and two yards.

Freshman quarterback Joe Wright saw his first collegiate action Saturday night. He completed 3 of 4 pass attempts for a total of 40 yards, and his first touchdown pass. Sophomore Mike Brazil caught that 19-yard touchdown pass giving him his first collegiate touchdown reception. Senior Brandon Simmons finished the night with four catches for 61 yards. A reception in early in the first quartergave Simmons his 100th career reception.

The Golden Rams defense was also on the top of their game with two interceptions. Sophomore Lateef Ferguson returned one interception 42 yards. Junior Angel Santana picked off the other one for 29 yards, his second against Cheyney in two years. Junior Ryan Kahanic had a good night, breaking up three passes at the line of scrimmage and four tackles.

The Golden Rams will continue their road to victory in the PSAC East next Saturday when they visit Kutztown University.
