SoftballThe West Chester University softball team will be holding its 2004 Offensive Clinic on Sunday afternoons February 15, 22 and 29. The event will take place inside the Sturzebecker Health Sciences Center on South Campus adjacent to John A. Farrell Foot-ball Stadium.

The clinic will run from 1-2 p.m. each Sunday afternoon for players ages 8-high school senior. Participants may choose to come for one, two or all three sessions. Tuition is $25 per session. Sign up for all three sessions and receive a $10 discount ($65).

The 2004 Offensive Clinic is specifically designed to work on the mechanics of the offensive game in softball. Participants will work on the mechanics of their swing along with bunting/slap-ping techniques.

This clinic will increase an athlete’s confidence at the plate. New WCU head coach Diane Lokey will operate the clinic. WCU’s coaching staff and players will provide outstand-ing individualized instruction.

Men’s Basketball

Trailing by 15 at halftime within 18 just minutes into the second half, West Chester University used a furious comeback to pull even with powerful Mansfield only to fall 72-67.

The Golden Rams rallied to forge a 64-64 tie with just over a minute left in regulation, but Mansfield finally squeezed out the crucial PSAC East victory.

The Golden Rams were led by Kofi Danquah who had 19 points and nine boards before fouling out. Steve Fattori added 11, including a game-tying three-pointer, while Sam Grannum posted 12 with seven rebounds.

The Golden Rams are now 2-3 in the PSAC East and 11-8 overall, while Mansfield is 17-3 and 4-1. WCU will face Kutztown at home Wednesday night in Hol-linger Field House.

Women’s Basketball

Senior center Caryolyn Muldoon powered her way to 18 points, while Shauna Palmer dropped a game-high 19 points as West Chester thumped host Mansfield Saturday afternoon 67-51.

The victory pushed WCU over the .500 mark for the first time this season at 10-9, while the Golden Rams remained alone atop the PSAC East with a 5-0 record. Muldoon hit 7 of 12 field goals and grabbed seven rebounds to pace WCU.

Palmer was 7 for 13 with trio of three-pointers and five assists. Elise McCloy scored nine points and registered a game-high of six steals.

Gymnastics

The women’s gymnastics team slipped to 0-3 in 2004 after suffering a pair of losses to Southern Conneticut and Rutgers (NJ) Saturday afternoon in Piscataway, NJ.

West Chester fell to Divison II SCSU 188.75-179.375 and lost to Division I Rutgers 194.25 179.375.

Caroline Krystopolski posted the highest all-around score in the event for West Chester with a 37.05.

Men and Women’s Swimming and Diving

West Chester University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Bloomsburg on Sunday in Graham Natatorium. The twin wins improved both teams’ records to 5-2.

The men won 165-95.5, while the women were dominating with a 140-117 victory. Leanne Rowland and Jerilyn Blaxland each won two solo events for the women.

The men were highlighted by a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1650 sweep from Mark Iwans, Eric Cohen and Doug Nowak, respectively. Congrats to Swimming and Diving for their wins on Sunday.
