On Saturday, the West Chester University women’s rugby team took on the Severn River women’s team and came through with a victory of 52-17. This game was scheduled as a scrimmage in preparation for their upcoming divisional game against Pittsburgh University on Oct. 13. West Chester came out ready to play, and within the first 10 minutes, three tries were scored; two by Cheryl Johnson and one by Jackie Sacco. After battling it out for the remainder of the first half, the score stayed at 19-0, West Chester.

The second half was kicked off by another try by Cheryl Johnson, and it seemed as though West Chester was on their way to a shut out. In the 51st minute of the game, however, Severn River scored their first try making the score 26-5.  West Chester came right back with two more tries from both Jackie Sacco and Cheryl Johnson. Later in the half Severn scored two more tries, but it was not enough to defeat the Golden Rams. Erin Gallagher contributed a try and Sam Tretter made six conversion kicks to add another 12 points to the West Chester win. Cheryl Johnson ended the day with five tries and Jackie Sacco finished the game with two, defeating Severn River 52-17.

This game added another win to the West Chester record for this season. On Oct. 13, the Rams will have their second divisional game against University of Pittsburgh at home.
