After sweeping Cheyney and Shepherd Universities the West Chester Golden Rams volleyball team was able to pull out a win against a tough Kutztown team to keep their four game winning streak alive.On Tuesday Oct. 27 the West Chester University volleyball team played Cheyney University inside Hollinger field house. The Lady Rams swept Cheyney 3-0 in their PSAC matchup.

WCU has now won six out of the last seven while underdog Cheyney University remains winless on the season. Overall WCU has won six straight games against Cheyney going back to their previous matchup they had in early October. Kelly Martin led the way with eight kills. Michelle Powers and Ashley Focht each put up six kills in last Tuesday’s win.

Helen Fitzpatrick had six kills of her own along with her 14 assists and six service aces. In the back row, Kyra Yost led WCU in digs with seven. Nora Jingeleski put up seven assists of her own. Alyssa Brown had five kills as West Chester University had a hitting percentage of .342 against Cheyney.

One night later the WCU Lady Rams hosted Shepherd University in a non-league women’s volleyball match. Martin once again led the way with nine kills, while Lexi Kegerise and Focht posted seven kills as WCU shut-out visiting Shepherd University 3-0. The match was scored 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21.

Wednesday night inside Hollinger field house West Chester University volleyball team hit the 20 win plateau for the third consecutive year. Fitzpatrick registered 27 assists while team captain Lisa Campbell recorded 16 digs and Jingeleski contributed with 10 digs of her own.

On Halloween WCU was looking for revenge against the Kutztown Golden Bears. Last time the two teams met Kutztown beat WCU in three straight games to take the match 3-0.

In game one WCU came out strong as they opened the game with a 5-0 lead. The lead was never relinquished by WCU as they defeated Kutztown in game one by a score of 25-21.

In game two Kutztown had a 16-10 lead in the late stages of the game. WCU battled back and overcame the six point deficit to even up the game at 22 apiece. After letting the Rams’ back into the game Kutztown seemed as though they had enough. The Golden Bears closed out the game 27-25 and evened the match at 1-1.

Game three was a back and forth outing that was tied six different times. Once again Kutztown was able to outlast WCU to take a lead in the match 2-1. With their backs against the wall the Lady Rams persevered and pulled out a huge win (25-16) to force a game five.

In game five the Lady Rams showed their never-die attitude as they pulled out the win 15-11 and take the match 3-2 over Kutztown University.

West Chester’s last home volleyball game of the regular season will be on Tuesday night against Goldey Beacom inside Hollinger field house starting at 7 p.m. Friday the lady rams’ will travel to Millersville to take on the Marauders in a PSAC east matchup. The last game of the regular season will be on Saturday, Nov. 7 at Shippensburg University. The game’s start is scheduled for 1 p.m.
