West Chester University’s Relay for Life, was given the Chester County Community Foundation’s 2008 Youth Philanthropy Award on October 14 at the Phillips Memorial Building. Maggie Tripp, the Director of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs at West Chester and also Staff Advisor Dave Timmann nominated the organization.Last year Relay for Life organized a 24-hour event and involved 685 people from both West Chester University and the community. Teams were formed from many organizations on campus such as academic clubs, fraternities and sororities, residence halls, and other organizations. These organizations contributed 200,000 hours of service. The events included survivors, entertainment, and speakers.
