Summer vacation seems to approach faster each year. Finals are coming up, stress levels are high and now is the time where parents start asking about a job for the summer. Now is also the time to plan and lay a foundation for landing the perfect summer job. Many college students base summer jobs on internships or jobs after graduation, but some are just looking for some extra spending money.

For a job that will help in the future, the first step is deciding on what is wanted and what are the benefits. Some things to think about are location, hours and pay. Given the current employment situation one should strive to find a job that meets as many needs as possible.

The next step to finding a good summer job is a self-analysis. What do you think you will be good at? What do you desire to do in life? What are your strengths and how could you strive to use those to your benefit?

For those students heading toward graduation, developing a resume is a good idea for preparation for the real world. Attending job fairs at different locations can help to plan what kind of job you would like.

After self-analysis and developing a resume, apply to as many places as possible. The more places that are applied to, the more options will be open.

“A good summer job for me would be working somewhere in the communications department, and aspiring to be a PR agent and following my dreams,” junior Katelyn Frate said. “You have to work really hard for what you want, and never take no for an answer.”

For a lot of college students, living and working at the beach is the most ideal and relaxing situation. The same route to finding a job can be taken for beach lovers. Especially places near or on the beach, such as life guarding.

Another idea for a summer job for those who want to do something with a little more activity than working in an office, would be working with sports. Many college students work at Citizens Bank Park for the Phillies. “My idea of a good summer job would be working at the Phillies’ games,” junior Geoffrey Brockman said. “That is what a lot of guys want to do because they get to go to every game and watch it live. It would be a fun experience.”

Sometimes finding a job can be stressful, but the best advice is to go after something fun and beneficial to your needs.
