Not sure of any good movies to see this weekend? On Mar. 3, Warner Bros. Picture’s action-packed film “16 Blocks” opened in theatres. It is guaranteed to keep you at the edge of your seats with the anticipation of always wanting to know “What is going to happen next?”For most people, 16 blocks does not seem like a far distance, but, for Jack Mosley (Bruce Willis), a troubled NYPD officer, and Eddie Bunker (Mos Def), a misfortunate witness, 16 blocks seems like 16 miles. Mosley has 118 minutes to get witness “Bunker” from the police station to a court hearing located on 100 Centre Street to testify against a group of crooked cops. A host of NYPD’s finest along with the SWAT team does everything in their power to keep the duo from reaching their destination, even if it means bloodshed.
The combination of Mosley’s retired-on-the-job/hardcore demeanor works perfectly with Bunker’s friendly but down-on-luck persona. The two are a prime example of the saying “opposites attract” and become true friends throughout the film with the help of Bunker’s constant reminder that people change, implying that Mosley does not have to be a crooked cop and Bunker does not have to be a criminal.
