From April 14 to the 21, members of Fraternity and Sorority Life will come together to celebrate Greek Week. Throughout the week there are a number of events that all chapters can enjoy organized by the Inter-Greek Council (IGC).
Greek Week provides a chance for members of Fraternity and Sorority Life to get to know one another better and participate in a phenomenal week of service and entertainment. All proceeds raised during Greek Week events will go towards Camp Dream Catcher, a summer retreat for children whose lives have been affected by HIV/AIDS.
“Our most successful event is lip sync, it gives chapters the opportunity to show personality and it ultimately raises the most money for Camp Dream Catcher,” Lena O’Malley, Co-Activities chair for IGC, said.
When asked the theme of Greek Week, it was apparent that the Co-Activities chairs were excited. The theme was revealed at the IGC meeting Feb. 28, as Greek Olympics.
“When we were thinking of the theme for Greek week, we were throwing around ideas and Greek Olympics was one that just stuck. It represents the idea of the Olympics and the world unity in a smaller basis of our Greek community,” stated Aaron Fink, Co-Activities chair for IGC.
Although there are a few changes happening with the layout of Greek Week, the change that has everyone talking is that each chapter will compete individually.
“[The biggest change] is that each organization will be competing individually instead of in pairs. At the time I think the chapters are a little taken back, but in the end it will only make our bond stronger,” O’Malley said.
Fink added, “Even though there are no pairings, each chapter will be participating individually and will still be cheering on the Fraternal brothers and PanHellenic sisters of our community.”
