A new year, a new coach, and a few new players, but the members of the 2007 West Chester men’s golf team still has the same expectations and goals that made them PSAC champions in 2006. At the helm this year replacing Bill Payne is Coach Harry Hammond, a golf professional from the Whitford Golf Club in Exton. Hammond, who is optimistic about the upcoming season, has high expectations for his new team.

“We hope to repeat as PSAC champions and have players advance to nationals,” Hammond said.

There are two seniors in particular on this year’s roster that he will be looking for big contributions. Todd Brown and Dominic Frassinelli are both veterans and are both coming off solid seasons last year.

Hammond said, “The returning seniors are talented.”

This year, look for PSAC East runner up Indiana University of Pennsylvania to be strong competitors for West Chester, along with third place finishers Millersville.

IUP and WCU should be a particularly competitive match this year as IUP lost to the Golden Rams by just two strokes in the championship last year.

Before winning the PSAC Championship last year, 1969 was the last time the Golden Rams won the league title. Interestingly enough, 1969 was the second year of a repeat as WCU also won the title in 1968.

With the talent, experience and tenacity that this team possesses, 2007 has the makings of a second straight league championship and could potentially set-up a three-peat for WCU in 2008.
