April is the designated month of autism awareness. April 2, is World Autism Awareness Day and Alpha Xi Delta wants to help spread the word. Autism is a devastating neurological disorder that impairs an individual’s ability to communicate, form relationships with others, and relate to their surroundings. It is also the fastest growing developmental disorder in the nation.
A new case of Autism is diagnosed almost every 20 minutes, while 67 children are diagnosed per a day. Autism affects everybody. Many are affected including one’s family, friends, and peers have or know somebody who has autism. This is why we must come together to create an enormous difference to change the future for all who struggle with autism spectrum disorders.
Alpha Xi Delta recently developed a philanthropic partnership with Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is a non-profit organization that dedicates their time to raise public awareness about autism. Alpha Xi Delta is very excited to start raising money for Autism Speaks.
Alpha Xi Delta will spread autism awareness to West Chester’s campus and community. Their first fundraiser will be April 2, in Sykes Student Union, where they will be selling ribbons and pretzels. All proceeds will go towards Autism Speaks for research into the causes, prevention, treatment, and cure for autism.
With the help of others, we can move forward to a brighter future for the many effected by autism. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and cancer combined. Join Alpha Xi Delta, on a journey to making a difference in many lives. Autism Speaks. Are you listening?
