Between sleeping in and trying to watch what they eat, students often skip meals. But skipping meals, especially breakfast, isn’t the right way to start the day, nutritionists say.Failing to eat in the morning or dividing food intake throughout the day in the wrong way can affect student’s health and their performance at school.

Glucose enters the bloodstream when food is digested. The sugar later fuels the brain, according to Shirley Perryman, an extension specialist for the department of food science and human nutrition at Colorado State University.

Eating well is critical in the morning, since the body hasn’t received food for long hours and needs energy to start the day, according to The Permanent Medical Group.

But studies show that it is better to spread your meals throughout the day rather than pile a lot of food in one big meal. If a person intakes 1,600 calories per day, more of those calories will be retained by the body if they come from three separate meals.

This happens because the body becomes extremely fuel efficient, meaning that it doesn’t know when the next meal will arrive, causing a bodyø•s weight to fluctuate.

Men average 600 calories per meal and women average 400. After eating a snack with the same number of calories, the total number of calories for males reaches about 2,400 and 1,600 for females.

Eating less and decreasing the intake of calories might be key to loosing some extra pounds. Skipping breakfast could result in some risky side effects.

One such effect is the night eating syndrome, which happens when the body thinks it’s hungry, causing it to gorge at night.

Skipping breakfast also could increase the risk of eating disorders- aggravating metabolic changes in the body to the point where it becomes difficult to treat. In order to maintain healthy eating habits, it is important to include breakfast in your daily eating habits.
