“American Idol” has become an international phenomenon, and Student Activities Council is bringing that phenomenon to campus. Clay Aiken or William Hung? You be the judge at this year’s Karaoke Showdown IV on March 23 in Asplundh Concert Hall. The showdown that has made audiences laugh, cry, and sing along, is now in its fourth year. SAC is proud to bring Dave Coulier, the star from the hit show “Full House,” as this year’s host. Rounding out the celebrities on this star-studded night will be Gervase from the premiere season of “Survivor,” as head celebrity judge. Joining Gervase at the judges’ table is Jeff Hyman from Auburn Moon Talent Agency.

This year SAC has put together a very diverse group of young singers. Over 30 applications were received, and after the preliminary auditions, 12 were selected to compete for the $300 grand prize. For those who have attended in the past, some familiar faces can be seen at this year’s event.

Returning champions Jess Ebert and Rae Pagliarulo are entertaining the crowds once again and will be up against Greg Offner, who took home first place two years ago. Back by popular demand is the group Outta’ Sync, which will once again make girls go wild with their sultry dance moves.

The format of the showdown is broken down into three rounds. The first round gives a chance for the contestants to show off their choreographed routine. SAC promises that viewers will be dancing along with the participants to such favorites as Billy Joel, the Dixie Chicks, N’Sync, and Beyonce.

The second round entails the use of the Wheel of Chance. The Wheel consists of over 20 different songs. The contestant will spin the wheel, and must sing whatever song it lands on.

Finally, the remaining finalists will sing a song chosen by one of the judges or Coulier himself. Participants will be given a score at the end of each round, and the scores will determine who is eliminated, and who moves on to the next round.

Each year brings new surprises and this year promises to be no different. Tickets are available now at the SSI Service Center at the bottom floor of Sykes for only $3.
