If you’re anything like me, or, let’s face it, pretty much like any college student in this country, you’ve had a long hard week of school and you’re looking forward to one thing.a nice cold beer to start the weekend off right. So long as you are of age and have a little bit of money and time to spend, there are plenty of options within walking distance of campus to quench your thirst. The quintessential college bar, 15 North, located on North Walnut St., offers everything a college bar should; great music and reasonable drink prices. Depending on what night you plan on going out, there are plenty of different specials to look for. Tuesday nights at 15 North features $1 well drinks and drafts from 8 p.m. – 12 p.m. with no cover charge. Thursday nights include live bands with the $1 well drink special from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. and $1 Bud Lite Pints. Friday nights at 15 North include the very reasonable “Meal Deal” special. This special runs from 7-9 p.m. and includes 50-cent drafts and well drinks along with free pizza. Live bands play on Saturday night with 50-cent Miller Lite pints from 9 to 11 p.m.

If it’s a great meal and equally great bar that you’re looking for, the place to go is Baxter’s. Located on the corner of Market and Walnut St., Baxter’s offers a laid back atmosphere that you may be in need of after a long day of classes or work. Baxter’s also offers some great drink specials with no cover charge.ever! Thursday nights offer $2 Red Bull and Vodka all night and Friday/Saturday nights offer $2 Miller Lite bottles all night.

Feeling a little Irish? Head on over to West Gay Street where popular pubs such as Ryan’s and Kildare’s make you feel as if everyday is St. Patrick’s Day. Kildare’s guarantees an “Authentic Irish Experience” without the inconvenience of draining your wallet. Specials vary, but each day at Kildare’s offers something unique. Every 17th of each month is dubbed “St. Practice Day” with $5 Irish Car Bombs and $4 Guinness Pints. Kildare’s also host a variety of live local bands Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with corresponding drink specials, including $3 Stoli drinks on Thursdays and $3 Coors Lite Pints on Fridays. Ryan’s is a two-story pub and restaurant that offers a fun atmosphere to socialize and meet new people. Pool tables and a fully furnished bar are located on the upper level.

If you’re looking to avoid the craziness that surrounds many of the bars downtown, The Courtyard Inn is a great getaway that often goes unnoticed. Located just minutes from campus in the Parkway Plaza on High St., The Courtyard Inn has many drink specials that vary daily including $2 Miller and Bud Lite bottles and $1.50 Yuengling pints. On Monday nights there are all-you-can-eat wings for $7.99 and Tuesday night is karoke night with an affordable happy hour.
