After weeks of practicing new plays, running suicides, and getting to know each other, the West Chester University Women’s basketball team finally got a chance to play against someone other than themselves.During the first day of play at the Millersville University Tip-Off Classic, in a thriller, the Lady Rams defeated the Goldey-Beacom College Lady Lightning, 68-67.

With time running out and down by one, senior captain Catherine Andrews drove the lane and hit a one handed runner off of the backboard to give the Rams the one point lead with 2.2 seconds remaining on the clock.

The defense held and the Lady Rams were able to leave with a victory. In her first start with West Chester, sophomore Janelle Garber led the Rams with 19 points.

Goldey-Beacom senior guard Toni Jones led all scorers with 28 points.

After the nail biter against the Lady Lightning, the Lady Rams (2-0) came back on Saturday to defeat the Alderson-Broaddus Lady Battlers 62-47.

Janelle Garber continued her strong play as she posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Senior forward Katie Kline scored 10 points while snatching nine rebounds.

After playing hero in the season opener, Catherine Andrews was tough defensively as she registered four steals and scored 10 points on the afternoon.

The Lady Rams make their long awaited home opener on Tuesday against University of the Sciences in Philadelphia at 6 p.m.
