On Tuesday, Feb. 7, the Abbe and Friars Societies were honored by West Chester’s Chamber of Commerce for their outstanding community service over the past year. They received the J. Dewees Mosteller Community Service Award for 2005 and were honored at a banquet with many representatives from West Chester’s businesses. The J. Dewees Mosteller Community Service Award recognizes organizations that exemplary community service in the West Chester area and have made a positive impact on the West Chester community. Past recipients of the award in past years include Crime Victims Center, Safe Harbor of Greater West Chester and Henderson High School Black Student Union.
The Abbes and the Friars were first introduced by Mell Josephs, from Student Services Inc. “The Abbe and the Friars do not wait to be asked. They volunteer and create goodwill,” Josephs said. The groups were also honored with a video montage that had been created about them. President Adler, members from the West Chester YMCA and Brian’s Run all spoke about the ongoing community service that the Abbes and the Friars participate in all year round.
