WCU lost a Golden Ram alumni on Jan. 13, 2006. Barry Goslin, 23, died in his sleep, according to reports. A well-attended funeral service was held on Jan. 18, at DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral House. Internment took place at Philadelphia Memorial Park.He was born in Chester County Hospital and graduated from Great Valley High School in 2000, according to his parents Barry Sr. and Linda Dowell Goslin, of Malvern.

A graduate of the Music Education Bachelor’s Program, Goslin dedicated much of his life to music. Before his death, Goslin was waiting to hear from the Air National Guard on an assignment to play electric guitar with a touring Guard Jazz band to troops fighting overseas and here in the United States. Goslin was a Pennsylvania Air National Guard member for three years. He also was a guitar teacher at George’s Music in Berwyn, and a past Acme employee.

Goslin was a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and a Guitar Ensemble member. At the Fall 2005 WCU School of Music Guitar Ensemble, Goslin played a near perfect rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

“He did a nice job performing it and a nice arrangement that he did himself,” Prof. Glenn Lyons said. “He added, actually, a duo arrangement of that. He made it into a solo. In other words, he got ahold of a two guitar arrangement of ‘Imagine’ and he made it into a solo by doing the most essential parts of a duo. He did a nice job with that.”

Goslin played both the guitar and vocal melody he arranged on a student model Ramirez classical guitar. He also performed a solo original song entitled “Night Sky.”

Prof. Lyons states that a student is presently composing a work dedicated to the musicianship of Goslin.

“Barry was really genuine,” Lyons said. “He was a really nice guy.”
