It’s colder in here than before; Luna’s window is always open at a thumb’s length in her room. She makes sure of it every night. But still, it felt so cold, like Antarctica was blowing kisses at her through the window. Luna wakes up as if the world’s population all knew how much her beauty sleep meant to her. She glares at the maker of her awakeness but looks in perplexity as she steps closer to the window. Nothing’s there, just the tree she yearns for to go green again, and a full moon that she blows a kiss to every night; she calls it her guardian angel. The wind howls again, moving her body ever so slightly, a warning. Still perplexed, Luna grabs a jacket from her closet and heads to the window to stand on the roof that her bedroom sits right on top of. Luna’s body tenses up, knowing that whatever is going to visit her tonight isn’t anything of normal coincidence. That’s when her body starts to freeze; it was as if she looked Medusa in the eyes. As this is happening, Luna stares in awe and wonder. It doesn’t feel as cool as it should, yet the more her body turns the color of ice, the stiffer her limbs get to move. That’s when the god of winter, Ullr, appears…

Luna tried to speak, but only a faint whisper escaped her frozen lips.

“Am I… dying?”

“No,” he said, his voice quiet but sharp as cracking ice. “You are awakening.”

“You have always left the window open,” Ullr replied. “Every winter. Every night.”

Luna blinked. “It helps me sleep.”

A faint smile touched his expression.

“It helps you remember.”

To be continued….
