To doubt a black woman:

Is to dig your own grave,

To negate all that she gave,

The roads she paved, the paths she braved.

To doubt a black woman:

Is a mistake that many make,

But when she breaks that’s when you wake,

Then claim a stake and soothe her ache.

To doubt a black woman:

Doubts innovation that shakes a nation,

Starts relocation to the caucasian,

Gives them the credit of her persuasion.

To doubt a black woman:

Repeats the cycle of the entitled,

Re-revival you turn an eye to,

In place of comfort you bring the blindfold.

To doubt a black woman:

Means your ignorance is bliss,

When it’s too late you’ll start to miss,

How much she did and was dismissed.

To doubt a black woman:

Means the cycle will repeat,

If it’s not me or she, it’s he–

And he will never match the feat.

But guess where he will run,

When his worries have begun,

When he sees what has been done,

In the end, you know who won.

This piece was born from lived experience and quiet observation.
From knowing what it means to be doubted while still becoming,
And offered as a truth to those who have questioned us anyway.
