West Chester has tons of restaurants, which can make choosing where to go a bit of a challenge. I recently stumbled upon Opa Opa, a new Greek restaurant that just opened right in the heart of town.

Now I’m no food expert, but believe me when I say that going out to eat is my favorite thing to do. So, naturally, when a new food spot opened in town, I knew I had to give it a try. Opa Opa just opened on Dec. 2, 2016 and is owned by friends Kostas Botos and Savvas Navrozidis.

Located on 122 E. Gay St., it’s the perfect spot to walk to on a nice day. The restaurant features a wide range of authentic Greek cuisine that is entirely homemade in house so the food is always fresh.

The menu features a selection of tasty appetizers and soups for starters along with a variety of salads and, of course, gyros, a Greek staple.

If you aren’t in the mood for any of these, there are a number of different entrees, including things like spanakopita (Greek spinach pie), pastitsio (Greek lasagna) and pikilia (meat, feta cheese, sauce, dolmades and pita bread), just to name a few.

For those that have a sweet tooth, there’s plenty to choose from. The dessert menu features items like rice pudding, baklava (a pastry filled with nuts and syrup or honey) and Greek yogurt with a number of topping options to satisfy your cravings.

After talking with Gina, a server at Opa Opa, she told me the most popular items are the lamb and beef gyro, the Greek salad and the pork gyro. I decided on a lamb and beef gyro along with a Greek salad for dinner. The gyro was delicious. It was served on warm pita bread, had the perfect amount of tzatziki, and they definitely didn’t skimp on the meat! The Greek salad, which I had to eat the following day because I was so full, was just as amazing. Although a salad, it was just as amazing and filling.

The environment inside the restaurant was very clean and sleek-looking. There are several tables so you can eat in, but they also do take-out if you’re on the run.

The staff was super friendly and inviting. As soon as I walked in, they engaged in conversation with me and made me feel like they were excited for me to be there, which I loved.

I would definitely recommend Opa Opa to anyone looking to try a new place in town. The food was fresh and delicious, the inside was super clean, and the staff was friendly and welcoming!
