Second chances are hard to come by, especially in sports. Mike Crowley, the starting quarterback for No Punt Intended, knows this. He also knows what it’s like to be told you’re not good enough… which was the case on Tuesday night.

Mike grew up in Newtown, Pennsylvania, where he starred at quarterback for the Newtown Middle School Indians football team. In the 2010-2011 season, Crowley broke every Newtown Middle School passing record (which ironically were broken the following year by Brandon McIlwain), leading the Indians to a perfect 10-0 season.

However the following year when Mike Crowley arrived at Council Rock North High School, he was moved to defensive line. The six-foot, 240 lb. freshman was told he was not good enough to play quarterback. Frustrated, Crowley transferred to rival High School, Council Rock South. At South, Mike went on to be team captain his junior and senior year while playing in the county’s All-Star game. He played defensive line.

It wasn’t until Tuesday night that Mike realized his prayers have been answered, a second shot at playing quarterback. However this time he’d be playing for No Punt Intended, a dark horse for the West Chester Intramural Flag Football Championship. But unfortunately for Mike (not for his team), he was benched after a rough first half. Coach Ryan Snarski had this to say on the personnel change, “Mike is a good football player, not a good quarterback. We went with Ty at quarterback to start the second half because he brings the mobility aspect to the game.”

No Punt Intended went on to tie Sigma Phi Epsilon 14-14 in their season opener. After gaining some experience in their first game, expect No Punt Intended to only get better. They are a force to be reckoned with after some recent personnel changes. Stay tuned for a possible quarterback battle heading into next week.
