Plenty of first-year and transfer students got to learn just how to “grab the ram by the horns” at West Chester University’s annual Involvement Fair, which was held on Wednesday, Sept. 2 in the academic quad.
The involvement fair hosted over 170 student clubs and organizations, accompanied by a number of local businesses including banks, restaurants, and other local organizations.
Plenty of organizations used the hot weather to their advantage.
Many tables had coolers full of water on hand, attracting many more students to see what they had to offer.
There were a lot of students eager to partcipate in the involvement fair.
“The involvement fair was very engaging,” said student Tamera Goode. “It was nice seeing everyone trying to get involved.”
Clubs gave plenty of free goodies in addition to the thirst-quenching water.
Many tables had buttons, temporary tattoos, pens, key chains, and even job applications.
“I got two free shirts at the fair,” said student Melissa Marabito. “Free stuff attracts new faces.”
The fair had something for everyone, and several tables stressed to students the option of creating their own club if there was something missing from the many academic organizations, sports, music clubs, religious clubs, service and volunteer clubs that were there that day.
WCU Studios (formerly WCU TV) gained interest with their interactive table that gave students the option to become WCU Weekly hosts.
They had a tripod and cue cards ready for new sign-ups to try their hand at becoming reporters.
The Homecoming Committee used the fair to introduce the theme for West Chester University’s 2015 homecoming festivities: Rams In The Sand.
Greek life had an entire side of the academic quad, near Main Hall, where students could rush for any one of West Chester’s fraternities or sororities.
“The Greek life tables gave insight to the type of service they do,” said freshman Erin Walsh. “I was looking for a sorority that did service that fit my interest.”
Student Leticia Paramo was one of many who enjoyed the involvement fair.
“The best part about the fair was that there weren’t any strangers,” said Paramo. “Everyone was welcoming.”
If students were deterred by crowds and hot weather, their best bet can be connecting with clubs through OrgSync.
Students can do this by going to orgsync.com/login/west-chester-university-of-pennsylvania and selecting the “Register Now” option.
There are more than 250 organizations linked to West Chester University’s OrgSync, and they update regularly with contact information, meeting times, and more.
