“Elizabethtown,” recently released on Oct. 14, tells the story of Drew Baylor (Orlando Bloom), an executive employee of a major athletic shoe company. Just as he thinks he is getting to the height of his career – unfortunately putting his family on the backburner in the process – Drew soon discovers that his most recent shoe design failed miserably, causing the company to lose almost a billion dollars. As a result, his boss (Alec Baldwin) fires him and Drew leaves the company in complete disgrace. While seriously contemplating and coming up with a clever idea for suicide, Drew receives a phone call from his sister (Judy Greer), who has still more horrible news: his father has passed away while visiting family in his hometown. Upon the wishes of his devastated mother (Susan Sarandon), Drew takes a plane to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, to help take charge of his father’s funeral arrangements. On the flight, he meets a very friendly and rather eccentric flight attendant, Claire Colburn (Kirsten Dunst), to whom he takes an almost immediate liking.

When Drew arrives in Elizabethtown, he receives an unexpected warm welcome from his father’s family, who he had not interacted with for a good deal of his life. While getting to know his extended family, he also finds himself in an unexpected growing relationship with the bright and bubbly Claire. Through her true love and understanding, Claire teaches him that the most important thing in life is not to give up, no matter how badly you fail. In the end, Drew finally finds the happiness he thought had been extinguished from his life forever and learns how to live again.

“Elizabethtown” – written and directed by CameroCrow (“Vanilla Sky”, “Jerry McGuire”) and produced by Tom Cruise – focuses on the importance of family and friendship. Following a similar style to “Garden State,” audiences will experience a mixture of emotions during this film. It includes rather melancholy moments as well as very funny ones.

Also, the breathtakingly beautiful southern scenery and wonderful soundtrack brings viewers on a spectacular journey that will surely not be forgotten. No doubt “Elizabethtown” is certainly a treasure, and is absolutely not to be missed.
