Have you noticed how the temperatures are slowly rising, the days are longer and everyone is cramming in their last minute school work? This can only mean that summer is almost here. We all know that a change of season means a change of clothes, and that also includes make up. As we pack away our dark and heavy clothing, the dreary winter hues look all wrong in this new summer light. Here is your guide to the top makeup trends for this summer at an affordable price.

Summer is all about wearing less. Now is the time to start a new skin-care regimen that will revive your great complexion so you won’t have to rely on heavy makeup. Hydra-Renewal Continuous Moisture Cream by L’Oreal is a great skin softening product that leaves you looking radiant. This is one of my favorite creams, and can be found at your local drugstore or ordered through amazon for only $6.97. You also want to remember to exfoliate.

Never forget to apply sunscreen before you leave the house. Clarins UV Plus HP Multi-Protection Day Screen SPF 40 ($38) is an ultra-lightweight sunscreen and is one of the best for wearing under makeup. It’s non-greasy, non-sticky and is not heavy.

For a flawless looking face, I recommend the Bare Minerals starter kit. I can easily say this is the best foundation I have ever used. It’s light-weight, blends perfectly, and even has a built in SPF 15. Bare minerals is also recommended for your skin, so you won’t have to worry if you stay out too late one summer night and forget to wash your face. You can buy the foundation separately, or purchase the starter pack for only $60. The starter kit includes two foundations, bronzer, mineral veil, face primer and brushes. This is the makeup to use if you are looking to create that flawless, glowing summer look.

Nothing is better than bronzer to make you look like a tan goddess in the summer, no matter how pale you actually may be. A quick dusting of bronzer on your cheeks, forehead, chin and eyelids can make you look like you spent the day at the beach – even if you were really sitting inside. If bare minerals is not your first choice, I recommend the Physicians Formula Bronze Booster. You can find it at your local drug store for $13. This is my personal favorite bronzer because of the natural look it gives off. It does not leave your skin looking orange or shimmery. It also comes in different shades so you aren’t using something that is too dark for your skin tone.

Once you have your foundations on, next are the eyes. Orange, silver and neutral eye shadows are a must. This summer is all about tangerine. It’s always important to remember to balance. If you are looking to go heavy on the eyes, tone them down with a more neutral color lip stick and blush. The smokey-eye look will continue on, although the runways ditched black and gray and were flooded with navy shadows. I typically like to use Maybelline eye products because the quality is great and they are affordable. But you will find all of these colors in the other lines as well. Top off your look with a water-proof mascara. I recommend Maybelline Full ‘N’ Soft Waterproof Mascara; you can find it at a CVS for $8.

Bright and bold lips are a classic look for summer. Reds, oranges and pinks topped with nude color eyes and the slightest ounce of blush will give you the ultimate summer look. I also recommend lip gloss with a SPF because burnt lips are not attractive nor comfortable. Clinique’s Long Last Glosswear with SPF 15 has all the shine of a regular lip gloss, but with the sun protection that your lips need. Clinique’s gloss also comes in tons of colors and lasts all day. You can find it at Sephora or online. It is a little pricey, but it’s totally worth the protection!

Now that you have this season’s must-haves, get out there and enjoy summer.
