Men’s SoccerThe West Chester University’s men’s soccer team fell to California University of Pennsylvania 2-1 Saturday afternoon in California, PA.

Junior Bill Harris scored the only goal for the Golden Rams trying to come back from their deficit.

This Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference defeat drops the Golden Rams to 4-4-2 on the season and 3-3-1 in the PSAC East. The Golden Rams will visit Bloomsburg University Tuesday afternoon in another PSAC East contest.

Cross Country The West Chester University’s cross country team traveled to Lock Haven University Saturday afternoon to compete in the Lock Haven University Invitational. The men took eighth place while the women finished ninth.

Freshman Tommy Pearson finished first for the Golden Rams, 41st overall, with a time of 34:25.76. Sophomore Peter Gottwald took second for the Golden Rams, 51st overall with a time of 34:52.12.

The women’s team was led by Freshman Rebecca MacNeill who placed 18th overall with a time of 23:12.58. Sophomore Kristie Kershaw took second place for the Golden Rams, 34th overall, in 23:44.21. The Golden Rams will head to Wilmington, Delaware next Saturday.

Field Hockey

The West Chester University women’s field hockey team ripped past Colgate with a 6-2 victory Friday afternoon in West Chester, PA.

Senior Megan Gliemi scored four goals Friday afternoon, the second most goals in a game in West Chester history. Donnie Renninger holds the record for WCU with five goals, which she tallied in 1994 against LaSalle.

The NCAA Division I field hockey game started with Colgate taking a 1-0 lead, and then rallying back to a 2-1 lead at the half after WCU scored a goal. Shortly thereafter, the Golden Rams started attacking, unleashing a torrent of five goals to defeat the Raiders 6-2.

The first six-minutes of the second half seemed to go just the same as the first half as Colgate dominated the field. Glielmi then tied the game 2-2, which opened the gates for the stream of goals by the Golden Rams.

The last time the Golden Rams scored six goals in one game was on October 3, 2000 against Drexel in West Chester, PA.

This victory over Colgate improved the Golden Rams to 5-4 on the season, while dropping Colgate to 5-3. The Golden Rams will host Monmouth Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
