The ultimate symbol of Homecoming, the King and Queen, was announced Saturday afternoon. Jason Mazzerle and Paige Barrow were crowned at the halftime show at the Homecoming football game. They represented the Inter- Greek Council. Although only one couple was crowned, there were many students on the Homecoming Court. A WCU club or organization nominated each of the following students to be a candidate for queen or king. However they did not run as a pair. Candidates included Lineliz Vassallo and Stephen Santa from the Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Kate Iezzoni and Eric Meisner from University Theatre, Ashley Smith and Mike Medina from Phi Sigma Pi, Corinda Mills and Chris Dickerson from WCU Gospel Choir, Juanita Robinson and Christopher Murphy from Black Student Union (BSU), Andrea Pavone and Matthew Forur from Student Government Organization, Vy Cu and Michael Kilarges from the Asian American Organization, Siobhan Kenny and Joshua Habbersett from the Off Campus Student Association (OCCA), Marlaina Geffers and Dean Gentekos from Residence Hall Association, Paige Barrow and Jason Mazzerle from Inter- Greek Council, Sara Mischo and Trevor Haverluk from Students Activities Council, Ebony Carter from the Abbey Society, Steve Brenoskie from Friars and Tony Santiago and Kyle Finucane from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Association (LGBTA).Kate Iezzoni, a candidate elected by University Theatre, was quoted as saying, “It’s an honor to be on Homecoming Court, especially when I’m representing an organization that I am actively involved in. It’s been fun to be involved in the Homecoming activities.”
