After a successful fall season for West Chester University athletics, the spring teams hope to produce just as good, if not better, results. The menʼs baseball team hired longtime Wilmington (Del.) College coach Matt Brainard to run their program this year after former coach Chris Calciano left for Georgia College & State University. Last year, Coach Brainard became Wilmington Collegeʼs all-time victory leader with 281 wins. After a solid 36-12-2 record last season, many key players returning, and a new winning coach, this season looks bright for the team.

The WCU softball team, led by third year coach Diane Lokey is coming off a 14-25-1 losing season. They have lost four senior players, including co-captains Falan Glynn and Erin Davis, but have many young players ready to step up. Juniors Andrea Pappas and Adina DeHainaut are part of the solid core of younger players. Last year, Pappas started every game in the outfield last year and hit .300. DeHainaut pitched 16 complete games while producing a sound 3.60 ERA during the season.

The menʼs golf team led by co-captains P.J. Politan and John Brown are preparing for their second go around for the year after the fall season.

The team took third place at the ECAC II Championship, while P.J. Politan and Matt Sullivan earned All-PSAC honors at the 2004 Fall Championship.

The womenʼs golf team consists of players Jennifer Griffin and Dana Nagele. They are headed by first year coach, Michael Thompson.

The womenʼs lacrosse team is coming off an unbelievable season finishing second in the nation after losing to Adelphi in the National Championship.

It was a heartbreaking 12 – 11 loss. With a young, experienced squad coming back after being runners-up in the nation, look for this yearʼs team to be at the top of the division.
