Men’s SoccerWest Chester Universitydefeated Caldwell 1-0 Saturday. This was the Golden Rams? last game at home for 2004. Amar Phanda scored the only goal of the game with an assist from Matt Christian. This victory brought the Golden Ram?s record to 12-6-1.
The Golden Rams must defeat Bloomsburg on Sunday Oct. 31 to clinch a playoff berth. A win on Sunday will send the Golden Rams to University of California (PA) Wednesday for a semifi nal game.

Cross-Country

The West Chester University men?s cross-country team placed 13th in the PSAC Championship race on Saturday at Kutztown University. Freshman D.J. Baker led the men?s team, finishing first for WCU and 52nd overall with a time of 27:58. Peter Gottwald placed 67th overall, second for WCU, in a time of 28:29. Tom Byrne took third for WCU, 74th overall, in 28:41.

WCU?s women?s crosscountry

team finished strong, although unable to capture any team points. The women were one runner short after Heather Kinner became ill and was unable to complete the course.
Freshman Kristie Kershaw led the women?s team, finishing first for WCU, 19th overall, with a time of 24:09. Junior Mary Forry came in second for WCU, 27th overall, in 24:40.

Swimming & Diving

The women?s team defeated Lehigh University 155-78 Saturday afternoon, while the men lost 153-91.
The women Golden Rams can boast winning every single event Saturday except for the 200-yard fly and one-meter dive.
Tammy Leane led the women?s team, breaking two pool and school records. She finished the 500 free in a time of 5:03.93 and the 200 IM in a time of 2:07.41. She also won the 1000 free in 10:34.64.

Other victories for the women?s team include Lori Pietsch capturing the three-meter board dive, Carlee Carew in the 200 backstroke in 2:12.80, and Katie Collar taking first in both the 100 free (53:68) and the 200 free (1:56.07). Reggie Shearer led the men?s team, capturing the 100 and 200 free events in 21:82 and 47:32. The women?s team is now 4-0 and the men are 3-1.

Field Hockey

The 2-1 loss to LaSalle in overtime Saturday ended theGolden Rams? season.Rhis loss, along with St. Joe?s victory over Temple, has prevented WCU from clinching a playoff berth since 1999. The Golden Rams finished the season with a record of 3-14 overall, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10 division.

Women’s Soccer

West Chester University defeated American International College Saturday afternoon in Springfield Mass. 4-1, clinching a playoff berth for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.
This victory brought the Golden Ram?s record to 10-6-2 overall.

Kristen Guancione led the golden rams with one score and an assist. Diana Pavan, Lauren Ginnona, and Jen Hayes each also scored a goal on Saturday. The Golden Rams still have one regular season game in Bridgeport, CT, before hosting Bloomsburg Tuesday afternoon for the first round of the PSAC playoffs.
