Men’s Basketball
Cheyney University used a 7-2 overtime run to slip by West Chester on Saturday afternoon 76-71 in a thrilling PSAC East matchup inside CU’s Cope Hall.Kofi Danquah led the Golden Rams in scoring with 16 points, while Steve Fattori tallied 15 and Matt Kurtz dropped in 13. It was Kurtz who hit the game-tying three-pointer to force overtime.

Cheyney was led by Anthony Frazier’s 16 points and 12 re-bounds. Ryan Sidney scored 14, while Melvin Eason added 13.

WCU’s Brandon Long recorded a career-high nine assists in the loss.

The win by Cheyney improves the Wolves record to 8-2 in the PSAC East and 19-6 overall. It also locks up a playoff slot for the Wolves.

The Golden Rams are now 15-10 overall as their four-game winning streak comes to an end. WCU is 5-5 in the PSAC East but still in the hunt for a playoff berth.

Women’s Swimming and Diving
In maybe one of the most inspirational performances of the year, senior West Chester University swimmer Jerilyn Blax-land is joining her teammates at the NCAA Division II National Championships.

On Friday night in Indiana, Pa. Blaxland qualified for her first National Championship swim meet after leading the WCU women”s 200-yard medley relay team to a PSAC Championship and capturing the PSAC title in the 100-yard backstroke. Both Blaxland’s individual time and her relay mark were IUP pool records.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Head coach Jamie Rudill has led WCU to six straight PSAC Mens crowns. Sophomore Levente Nagy-Pal was named the mens Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet as his West Chester University swimming team captured its sixth consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crown Saturday night in Indiana, Pa.

Women’s Basketball

West Chester University ju-nior guard Kiesha Mack scored a game-high 28 points, but it was her 1000th all-time career marker with 9.2 left in regulation that iced a 77-74 PSAC East victory at Cheyney University on Saturday afternoon for the Golden Rams.

Mack scored her 28 points on a quartet of three-pointers and by making 8 of 9 free throw attempts. She became just the 11th 1000-point scorer in WCU women’s basketball history. Ahead 75-72 with 9.2 left in regulation, Mack hit her first of two free throw attempts to put the game out of reach and giving her the millennium milestone.

Carolyn Muldoon, who needs just 22 more points for a 1000, finished the game with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Shauna Palmer contributed 14. The victory was the 27th straight for WCU dating back to January of 1991.

The Golden Rams are 14-11 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC East. A win over Kutztown (Wed.) or Mansfield (Sat.) would give WCU a share of the PSAC East title. Two victories would provide WCU the crown outright and the top seed in the Eastern Division.

Gymnastics

Caroline Kyrstopolski captured the all-around competition as the West Chester University women’s gymnastics team placed fourth at the 2004 Harriett Marranca Me-morial Invitational Saturday af-ternoon in Ithaca, NY. The event was hosted by Ithaca College.
