Organizations are the cornerstone of involvement and opportunities at West Chester University (WCU). Each organization provides a new environment to experience and a new group to network with. Every environment could include the opportunity to listen to a guest speaker, or have a thoughtful discussion. And each group could field lifelong friends, relationships or possible business partners and connections.

The Economics & Finance Society (E.F.S.) of WCU, aims to embody an environment for students to grow individually, and to network with each other as well as companies and organizations that come in to present. E.F.S. is a place of discussion, whether it be the current events of the markets, or general economic news. The organization believes that it is important to understand the world around us, so that we can make the best financial decisions possible.

The organization loves to share knowledge and opportunities with its members, who do not have to have any economic or financial background to be a part of the organization. Ways that it shares knowledge is through biweekly “some quick information” emails, where they send out a new email on a different topic each Tuesday and Thursday night.

Some of the topics expressed in these emails have been budgeting, investing, where to find and learn more general economic and business information and some general information on current events. Within each email, websites and short videos are shared for the benefit of the email recipient. E.F.S. members do not have to attend the meetings in order to receive these helpful emails, and you too can receive them by adding yourself to the Economics & Finance Society Ramconnect page.

Another opportunity that E.F.S. offers to students is a way to differentiate yourself from peers within your major. Should you be an Economics or Finance major, this organization is also a great way to learn more about the industry you will be going into. Again, if you are not within either of the fields covered in E.F.S., it is still a great place to network with those that are, and learn practical information that will serve you in any field of study you are in.

This academic and professional organization seeks to show how Economics and Finance fits into the world that each of us live in. It is imperative that everyone has some basic understanding of the principles held in each subject. Economics is all around us, we can find it in the gas our cars consume day to day, to the theories put to work in the global stock market.

Finance is important to the individual when it comes to taking care of our own finances and spending, just as it is a tool that the largest corporations use to maintain profitability. When we understand the importance of each subject, the importance of this organization can also be realized.

So, whether you are dedicated to the most advanced study of Economics or Finance, or you are just looking for some friends to hang out with, E.F.S. is for you. It is a place to learn as well as network; a place to grow as well as connect.

After you join the Economics & Finance Society on Ramconnect, you receive the emails that will detail what each meeting will look like for each week. The organization meets every Thursday from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Business and Public Management Building in room 204. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021. In the near future, the organization will be having food during its meetings, as well as guest speakers from the university, local businesses and large firms.
